dmt experience

this was years ago and the nature of the experience makes it hard to explain or remember even in the moment but i will try to share what i can

my friend told me that he found some DMT and we should do it. seizing the moment, i agreed. he took his glass bong we usually smoked weed out of and put down like 4 metal screens in the bowl. then puts some crystals on top of the screens. finally he pulls out a butane torch.

we were in my friend's nice bedroom with white walls and wood floors using a lathed glass bong with ground glass fittings and probably some cooking torch. it was the middle of the day. we sat on his plush bed with puffy white blankets, pillows piled up behind us. my friend did not have any music on. it felt very clean, almost sterile.

my friend torches the little crystals and puffs on the bong but the first time is a dud. he breathes out and goes back in twice as hard. smoke bubbles up. smart enough to not try to pull the lava hot bowl out, he turns off the torch and shlorps up the full hit.

he puffs out and his eyes go wide. i have to pull the bong out of his still clutched hands as he gently falls back onto the pillows in a smooth, slow motion. he makes some noise like "woh" and then lies there eyes open.

maybe 30 seconds later he comes back to the land of the living. not totally present at that point but a lot closer than he was a moment ago. he recovers for a bit then insists that i have to try this.

i would be lying if i said i wasn't scared even a little bit. but i was also young and invincible and i had to know. so i took the bong and he handled the torch. he started blasting and i pulled until i could see smoke in the chamber.

suddenly i was somewhere else, but still in the same place? i don't remember the bong being taken out of my hands or laying back. the sunlit room fell to darkness. i saw an eye looking back, adorned in revolving geometry. obscured but piercing.

there were no colors, no feeling of massive or tiny size in this strange eyeball object. i don't recall any sounds. like those kind of qualities don't exist in this place. we communed by staring. it didn't say anything, i guess much like i didn't say anything either. so we stared.

the open-eye visuals only lasted for a short while, it felt longer than 30 seconds but not a very long time. the whole experience felt oddly circular, like time just did a loop.

when it faded, the room came back to my friend sitting on his desk chair, looking on expectantly. he held a large glass of water. the cat was cleaning herself on the floor.

"here drink this" he says and hands me the glass of water. as i go to grab it, it feels huge like a fish bowl. i have to hold it in both hands to even attempt to carry this gargantuan amount of water.

i take a sip from the fishbowl and everything in the room melts. paint slides off the walls and onto the floor. the plush blanket starts dripping off the bed. the cat on the floor becomes a little black and white cat puddle. existence is liquid. this was actually cool as hell.

after that the most obvious effects faded fast. a general glowiness lasted for an hour or two, made things seem bloomy and washed out. a very magical effect.

overall, it was very fun. an enjoyable experience. but my whole frame was set up perfectly thanks to my friend. side note, this is why a good trip sitter is necessary. i was confident and mostly unafraid in a nice clean bed using decent equipment with a knowledgeable friend to look over me. does wonders for your frame of mind.

as fun as it was, i never did DMT again. and i wouldn't do it today. too many anxieties piled up over years that i fear to make worse. but i am glad i did it at the time. even if i didn't really learn anything beyond "shit's weird"
